What year is Warzone 2 coming out?
Despite reports it would arrive in 2023, Activision Blizzard confirmed it arrive this year with ‘substantial improvements’.
The news came during Activision Blizzard’s Q1 2022 financial results, where the company said: “The Call of Duty teams delivered substantial gameplay improvements for Vanguard and Warzone in the first quarter.
The statement continued: “Development on this year’s premium and Warzone experiences, led by Infinity Ward, is proceeding very well.
“This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, the most successful Call of Duty title to date, and will be the most advanced experience in franchise history.”
At the peak of the original Call Of Duty Warzone the game had one hundred million players, so it’s understandable that Activision would make to make sure the next game was as perfect as it can possibly be.
Call Of Duty Warzone 2 Gameplay Changes
Of course, fans are also wondering what gameplay changes they might see in Call Of Duty Warzone 2, and there will be gameplay changes galore according to industry insider Tom Henderson.
In no particular order:
- The game will be closer to Call Of Duty: Blackout than your traditional Warzone
- Loadouts will be locked behind missions and objectives that will seem much closer to traditional Call Of Duty.
- You’ll be tasked with managing your inventory, much more than in the original Warzone
Henderson also posted the above artist’s rendition of what the Call Of Duty Warzone 2 map looks like, although for obvious reasons it’s not 100% accurate and is subject to change. Still, it’ll give players an idea of what to expect in the new game and how to best strategize.
We can likely expect to see the game officially announced at either Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live or during The Game Awards 2022, though things could still change before then and lead to the reveal being pushed back.
Will Warzone 2 be free?
There is still no concrete evidence, but if it’s anything like the current iteration, we’re fairly certain it’ll be free to play.
Will Warzone 2 be cross-platform?
Just like the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be a cross-gen game, releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One
Will Warzone 2 replace Warzone?
Not really. The two experiences will live side by side, Activision has confirmed.
According to an official blog post, Warzone 2 features a brand new progression system, which won’t carry over change any content from the original.
“Today’s Warzone will continue as a separate experience that will include a continuation of player progression and inventories within that Warzone experience,” Activision said.
“We can’t wait to share more details soon.”
Will Warzone 2 be on PS4 and Xbox One? Will Warzone 2 only be for current-gen consoles?
Yes, on June 8, it was confirmed Warzone 2 will be available for both Xbox One and PS4. It’ll also be available on current-gen PS5 and Xbox models.
This didn’t prove popular with fans, who went on Reddit to voice their frustration. One wrote: “The game won’t be able to do anything that an old generation console cannot handle. Pretty lame.”
Will there be FOV sliders in Warzone 2?
Nothing has been confirmed yet – however, respected leaker ModernWarzone has hinted this was down to last-gen consoles struggling with the feature. With the arrival of the now current gen of consoles, FOV could well be a possibility. We hope so, anyway.
Will Warzone 2 have a new map?
Yes, we think so. Warzone Pacific launched shortly after Call of Duty Vanguard was released in December 2021 – and that was a massive update map wise.
Is Verdansk a real place?
No, it’s fictional. It’s the major city in the fictional Kastovia. Although there are some elements that hark back to Soviet-era Russia and seem to emulate the era of history.
