The first configurable setting allows you to build Receiving Groups by inventory type. The time it takes, the staff it requires, and the warehouse space needed to unload inventory differ across categories. For example, receiving stackable boxes of lightweight accessories is generally less involved than receiving pre-assembled upholstery. Therefore, how you plan your time and resources to handle these goods should also differ. Receiving Group settings allow you to specify the ideal time of the day to receive inventory groups as well as estimate how long the receiving process typically takes. You can proactively account for breaks your team will need. Having these settings allows you to plan when certain vendors are eligible to deliver certain purchase orders to you.

The second configurable setting of the Receiving Calendar is its Capacity settings. Here, you can define the maximum number of truckloads and individual pieces you can receive in a day. You can also define stretch quantities managers can override up to. Capacities allow you to staff appropriately for anticipated inventory volumes.

Once your settings are pre-configured, you can use them on an ongoing basis to build Receiving Calendars. When your logistics partners alert you to an inbound shipment, it’s time to schedule. You can add inbound orders to your ERP manually, via import spreadsheets, or automatically when using EDI.
