Angstromics has come to clear the air of all the rumors. It has outlined the likely final specs of the RX 7000 series cards.
Along with the configuration, there are other factors that have been changed to improve the architecture. With plenty of optimizations to further improve the effectiveness of the cards.
RX 7000 series optimizations
Apart from smaller processes, there are other areas that have been improved to further the line. Firstly AMD Radeon is rearchitecting Compute Units and Graphics Pipeline.
These are mostly about removing the extra space on the dies. Creating the lowest area and cost per area. Much improved over RDNA 2 even with doubling ALUs.
Another feature of the graphics is OREO, the Opaque Random Export Order. This reorders the shaders to run in order, and not need another pipeline element down the line.
There is also an Infinity cache update. The Memory Attached Last Level (MALL) cache blocks have been halved in size. It doubles the number of backs and reduces the penalty of going to VRAM with higher bandwidth.
Angstromics points out this configuration was done in 2019 and finalized in 2020 and has not changed since.
The biggest change for the lineup is the use of its chiplet tech. As seen in the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, utilizing TSMC’s fanout tech lowers costs and the 3D stacked MCD double the infinity cache but does cost extra.
There is also a reported change in reference card design. Although keeping with the three fan design, it is going slightly taller, for higher TDPs. It also comes with a distinctive three-red stripe accent on the heatsink near the dual 8-pin connectors.
